Ok, now that the Algos like me,
No they don’t,
I want to say some words that for some reason are not being said? Words that I learned from a text book, but the words “All People Seem To Need Data Processing” Those were not taught as a sentence but a numeric.
The point in the sentence was assumed by everyone, up until 2026 when Americans decided they HATE data processing.
The OSI Model:
- Application
- Presentation
- Session
- Transport
- Network
- Data Link
- Physical
It is the foundation to understanding computers. At least one way to. There are others, this one is even considered outdated.
No one understands computers, fully, me as someone who makes the applications that shows up on the phone screens, I have no idea how they get there to be honest with you. You know my part is my part, I make my little piece and then it is sent threw the internet and computers but most of it is out of my hands. That is #technology in a nutshell. We work on our piece.
Before LLMs this was really bad. You could only work on such a small piece. The character patterns and nuance was nothing short of learning a new human system of math or language. I wrote little pieces it took me days to do a few pages by hand.
Taking things as granted…
We take a lot “as granted” in the modern world, including our data processing. It is not our faults! As I just said even the “Professionals” among us only work on small pieces. You would be amazed at the broken understandings myself and others go for years in this field holding onto simply because of the abstract nature of it!
It can be said one of the most difficult parts of dealing with advanced technology is the “unseen” nature of it. You “hit a button” and behind the scenes somehow a freaking 200 Ton bridge starts to open up for a cargo boat? How the heck? All you did was press go? Its bonkers!
Taking things for granted could, and probably should, in the context of technology, simply be called “learning”. Instead of clinging to the idea you can understand things in their entirety.
We can go back to the 1980s IBM was dominating, they were also studying us. There was a study I could find, but so can you. They quantified that a single human can maintain approximately 1000 lines of computer code before they see diminishing returns, on average.
Now forget the 1000 number, the point is, humans have limits, and computers simply challenge them.
What a computer is, it is a collection of information so big that we need to stop assuming, most of us have, that we can understand them fully, not out of futility but simply math! They are the literal human method for extending our information processing beyond the bounds of our brains!
BUT THAT TURNED INTO #OPINION
What is not opinion is “all people seem to need data processing” that at this point in time is 100% TRUE.
We must own this. That is the core of this post.
You use it, if you are reading this you use it, if you go out in public you likely used it in some way. If you stayed at home, idk, do I really need to keep going? Its almost maddening such a baseline needs to be established.
In 2026 you need to tell someone who is literally on their phone, that their phone is important. Its like the freaking #twilightzone .
So Where do we put the actual Data Centers
Not my backyard, that had become astonishingly clear. “Anywhere but where I can see, hear, or even know it exists” is what my Facebook feed tells me. Even more, we don’t want them in this county! #USA
Apparently as we type from our literally, what Kirk on The Enterprise could accurately describe as “data center interface devices” we use them to type “we must not have any data centers”.
Laugh or cry, I’ve done both, it it fine for a little but then it just starts to burn…
Conclusion
If you don’t want one in your house, because you are happy using Facebook and Apple cloud, and don’t want to actually house your own data.
You also don’t even want data centers in this country.
Then, where do we put the data?
We, as in the IT people, where do you want your apps and data to live? It is a simple question. It must live somewhere. This is energy, all a computer program is, is a way to manipulate some sort of information or thing. It needs a house!
You just can’t have it both ways. You get Amazon.com and a data center, or you don’t get Amazon.com!
Data centers are large, but inside there are can be MILLIONS of private servers all doing whatever they want to do. MILLIONS of your peers business, ideas, blogs, core services like Amazon and your grocery service! Beyond the logistics software that your grocery store relies in but you never see! It lives in NYC data centers!
Ai
He’s a hungry boy isn’t he. Slurping up all the water and killing all the dolphins! What a monster! ChatGPT I thought you were my friend!
You know for like 3+ years no one even cared. Ai was just quietly working away without any news coverage.
In that time its gotten cheaper. I think like an order or magnitude cheaper, like each response is worth like 30x the response you would get in 2022. I would attest to this personally.
Oh no but let’s not talk about that, lets just talk about how Agentic use has cause PRICES TO SKYROCKET, BE AFRIAD THE COSTS OF TOKEN USE ARE EXPLODING. It’s all the same headlines missing the same points.
Its like they never went to 5th grade and learned basic math.
Or how about #mooreslaw I mean that’s basically clickbait at this point.
I’m being a jerk
I try my best people, I try to stay grounded but I really need someone on the “anti data center” side to answer this simple question:
IF NOT HERE THAN WHERE?
