Ah happy Saturday, what better time then to go back 5000 years to when Homosapian decided Neanderthal were boring and slow.
5000? Who the heck knows, before 2000 the moden world likes to forget about what went on, thier favorite coliseum building short annoying people were not here yet.
ANYWAY
Humans. The squishy species, as we are likely referred to by every other living, breathing entity on this earth. We have lost our fur and our claws. We don’t fight each other physically but mentally.
We need houses
That’s it. Simply a human, to live on this earth needs a house! We have lost our abilities to survive in the wild without protection! After thousands, tens of thousands of years humanity has collectively and with our own flesh decided they need to have clothing and houses!
So where does this leave you. As citizen 3583829428364 who just spawned onto earth?
Historically you would need to craft one. But always you would not be able to do this alone. As the tools and methods of humans are passed down and shared by others. We are not wild animals we do not derive everything for ourselves. It is one of our species advantages! We can share and act on pre exzisting information.
So you would come up, and you would figure out the ways, you would go to work and vooloia. House.
Modern Ways…
Abysmal. That’s the word that comes to mind. The “modern ways” of aquiring housing are:
- Spend .5 Million USD
- Know someone
- Work for 15+ years without housing
- Luck
- Spend 200k and have a leaky trailer

3 is the killer. Its where I and probably most of your are.
Crafting, Maintaing, Cleaning, Fixing.
Behaviors in evolution is a tricky subject. Are they learned? Are they inherented? Certainly a combination but it would almost seem to be in different ratios on a subject to subject basis. Or at least I know of no way to fully quantify a humans behavior based off genealogy and information they have collected.
Possibly one exists. Hopefully not created by an LLM…
The bottom line is, humans all share the behaviors I wrote in the above heading. These behaviors are clinically studied and we classify them as “benifical” as in when a human does one of those behaviors, it is seen as positive for the being. It means they are healthy and happy and not just living at baseline but they are comfortable enough to spend energy to create, to fix.
They are practicing critical thinking. They are looking into the future and seeing “oh no this spot of mold in my bathroom will keep growing if I dont stop it”. Such a simple idea, then behavior. But what that person is doing is beautiful. That simple act is what separates us from animals.
Yes animals nest, but if they pick up a toxic stick, they will use it until it causes them harm.
Humans will not. Humans will often before doing anything, consult other humans, or at least pull on thier exzisting source of information before launching into things.
Where this is obvious
Houses, what the crap is a modern house? You know I bet you couldnt even list all the system, components, sciences, studies. All of the information that is involved with the simplest of human dwellings.
These are “natural structures” but they are on a different information scale than the rest of the world. Orders of magnitude different in complexity. 1 simple item the size of a CPU has more collective energy and information than an Acre of ant hills. When you look at what needed to happen in the time span it was made. Materials needed to be brought from all over the planet. 100s of people held meetings and stayed up late at night. Power plants used nuclear chemistry to turn the wheels to make it all come together.
Its bonkers.
The problem
We lost our ability to work on them ourselves!
Simply, we now finance them, lease them, think of them as metaphors rather than structure. Realtors trade them like cards in a deck, quantifying all the “areas of value” and calculating it all out with cold precision.
When they need to be mended we call someone who is “specialized” or in other words, someone who adheres the the #dogma of whatever that specific trade area is. Goldman Sacs is America’s biggest HVAC company lol.
The tradesmen who come out are bairly allowed to live usually. $20 an hour and a Tacomma with a GPS tracker. Have fun guy. Oh and if it goes over 65 we get a notification.
Thier diet of Wawa sizzlies and Ciggarellos has done nothing to help the situation.
We then watch this guy poke around and do the most reasonable thing. Then we pay $3000 and go back to the cube farm to pay this off before the intrest hits!

That kind of comes back to the idea from above, humans use information to make decisions. Its simply am energy advantage we have and use, must use. Mathematically would be illogical to ignore.
If you couldn’t tell by now, I am a renter
My floor is gross. Its not appropriate flooring. It is office flooring. Some guy installed it in a kitchen and bathroom before opening a 30 pack and forgetting his name is “fix it for less Jess” or whatever the crap he has spray painted on his van.
So as someone with months of trade experience. It hurts me. To live with this floor. This floor I could fix and create positive change in my life.
I cannot fix it. It would cost time and money and the kicker. The land lord could use it against me. They could use it to remove me from my house!
Yes as a renter, you are really helpless. I have had it happen to me. Spare me your legal talks they don’t do anything against a land lord who has decided they simply “do not like you”. Those words likely strike frear into fellow renters. They do me. Land lords. They do this. They decide they don’t like you and then guess what. You’re screwed buddy. Literally anything you need, guess what, you need it well now its going to be a tool to hurt you and make you feel like a helpless little mouse trapped in a cage.
Vindictive. Controlling. Evil.
This is not because they are evil. It is just the possition they are in. I do not even fault them for it!
That is why I make this, to let these situations air out.
When we enter a situation. We are a victim of it. Or in a less negative light, we are going to be formed by it. As in when we enter a situation, there are real physical bounds. Placed on us and all parties involved.
I just wish we could stop ignoring them.
Conclusion
You, and I, we cannot always answer our drives. Even if they are healthy, warranted, natural. Sometimes as Uncle K would say, we simply built a situation that does not allow them to exist.
But we do not have to be down! We can like many things, take this head on. As I am by making this post.
To talk about things, write, speak, it forces conclusions and helps me to see where I am wrong.
The conclusion to my floor problem is simple. I would like to fix it. I have the means, I have the motive. But it cannot happen, because land lords I have seen use modifications against tennents, as the math of economics allows them.
So we sit and write. For the floor really causes me no harm. It truly does not. The harm it causes is mental.
So concour the mental if you cannot the physical. But never lie to yourself. Take it for what it is.
Could I fix it, would it be fine, sure. But this is real life. And in real life we do what works!
For even if I fancy myself a #trades person, I know my standards could be different from theirs, or they could only want “do it for less Jess” because hes the cousin of someone who needs thier loan back. The world is round, but its more like a pretzel the way it acts.
Oh and no, I dont want him doing it in my apartment under the direction of someone else. This is my home! They knew it was failing when they rented! How is that not to say this is simply how they want it?
